10/10/18 | Collaborative Communication for ESP | This session will engage support professionals in a process that allows them to explore challenges that they face in their work and then work collaboratively to resolve them. The goal of this session is to help members address professional challenges through productive conversational practices and collaboratively build a more effective and resilient school community. |
10/23/18 | Building Positive School, Family, & Community Relationships | This workshop emphasizes that education is a shared responsibility: parents and the local community working collaboratively with school staff. Participants will examine behaviors that inhibit trust, cooperation and communication and identify effective strategies that will promote mutually supportive home–school partnerships. |
11/13/18 | Digital Citizenship for Students and for Advocacy | Digital Citizenship: The self-monitored habits that sustain and improve the digital communities you enjoy or depend on. (https://www.teachthought.com/the-future-of-learning/the-definition-of-digital-citzenship/)
Today we are experiencing so many positives and negatives with technology, especially with social media. The idea of self-monitoring has become increasingly important. This is a skill that is difficult for some adults to master, let alone our students. This is why there is such a need for this workshop. Together we will examine the issues surrounding digital citizenship and learn practical skills and of useful tools to share with our colleagues and students to help them to appropriately live in digital communities. As always with any workshop, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with MTEA members across the district. You will make new friends and contacts with which you can join forces to foster a more collegial and productive work environment. |

1/15/19 | Google Open Forum | We are inundated with Google and it is difficult to keep up with all of the rapid improvements and updates to the various apps and tools we use. This is a forum to ask questions for help and to improve your practice.
Together we will also explore some tips and tricks to improve upon our practice in our respective classrooms. As always with any workshop, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with MTEA members across the district. You will make new friends and contacts with which you can join forces to foster a more collegial and productive work environment. |
2/12/19 | Supporting Transgender Students | Transgender, gender-fluid, and gender non-conforming students often challenge us to rethink established culture and norms. The recent passage of the Transgender Student Bill of Rights requires school districts to establish certain policies to support these students. This workshop will focus on developing a better understanding of gender identify and how to develop an affirming school culture that supports all students. |
3/5/19 | Effective Written Communication for ESP | Effective written communication takes time and skill since such a small portion of our communication is contained in the words themselves. In this workshop we will discuss the importance of writing style; memo and e-mail writing tips; and the importance of careful proofreading and revision. We will also explore how to write clear, professional, effective e-mail messages. Participants will learn how to write concise, descriptive subject lines and to state their purpose clearly at the beginning of each message. The smallest details do much to convey tone and courtesy. This workshop goes beyond other topics which include salutations, closings and the traditional rules of grammar. |
3/26/19 | Preparing for the Professional Responsibilities Domain | Each of the teacher evaluation models includes criteria related to Professional Responsibilities (Standard 1 in McREL, Domain 4 in Danielson, Domains 3 and 4 in Marzano, Standard 6 in Stronge, Domains E and F in Marshall). This can be a challenge during evaluation discussions; the criteria are primarily “behind the scenes” work and therefore not applicable to data gathered during instructional observations. This workshop will focus on exploring the criteria and developing strategies for teachers to reflect and document this critical aspect of their practice. |
4/9/19 | Teacher Evaluation for Professional Learning | As New Jersey moves to a more defined set of expectations for evaluation of teaching and learning, it is imperative that educators have an understanding of the standards-based models of evaluation that are being promoted by the state. This learning experience will focus on developing an understanding of the changing face of evaluation and the alignment with professional learning. |
5/7/19 | LGTBQ Curriculum of Inclusion | Creating an affirming society means understanding the lives and contributions of all members of that society. This workshop will focus on including positive content from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities across the curriculum in order to develop a safer and more inclusive school culture and society at large |
